The professional chain wear indicator is designed for precise measurement of chain wear. Set the dial of the tool to the starting position at 0, insert the measuring pins between the chain links, and gently turn the dial to check for chain elongation. Lightly tighten the dial all the way and read the chain stretch value on the scale, which ranges from 0 to 1.2 mm. Repeat the measurement on several sections of the chain. Manufacturers recommend replacing the chain when wear exceeds 0.5% or 0.6 mm over the length of 10 links.
