The second, updated and expanded edition of The Great Ski Touring Guide from 2013, successor to Sidarta's Ski Touring Guide to Slovenia, which was published exactly twenty years earlier. The first edition's important innovation was the expansion to destinations beyond the border, and the latest edition offers a rich yet refined selection of most notable ski touring routes in the home mountains. 14 new destinations have been added with over 80 ascent and descent variants and additional options in the immediate vicinity of the main objective.
The author's guiding principle was to present the most interesting ski touring routes within a radius of 250 km or 3 hours' drive from central Slovenia. In addition to all major ski touring areas in Slovenia, the guide also features the finest ski touring routes in the Italian Western Julian Alps and the Austrian regions of Carinthia, Styria, Salzburg and East Tyrol. The tours are generally feasible in one day, except for ski touring routes with significant elevation gain.
Most of the 133 described routes are of medium difficulty, some are easy and suitable for beginners, while the most challenging tours and variants are serious alpine descents, suitable only for the most experienced skiers.
