The formula was developed in the Muc-Off R&D lab over four years of development. For road, gravel and MTB cycling

Muc-Off Dark Energy is suitable for road bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes. It can be used for training, racing or everyday riding, where a clean, quiet and efficient drivetrain matters.

The wax formulation is especially suited to dry and dusty conditions, but can also be used in wet conditions. According to the manufacturer's instructions, the product is intended for use in dry to wet conditions; after riding in wet conditions, it is recommended to clean and re-lubricate the chain.

How to use Muc-Off Dark Energy Chain Wax?

1. Clean the drivetrain: thoroughly clean the chain, cassette, chainrings and derailleur pulleys. The drivetrain must be completely dry before application. For a new chain, the factory grease must be completely removed.
2. Shake well: shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
3. Apply the wax: apply one drop to the inside of each link on the lower section of the chain. Start at the quick link and make two full rotations of the chain.
4. Shift through all the gears: slowly shift through the gears so the wax is evenly distributed across the cassette sprockets.
5. Let it dry: before riding, let the wax dry for at least 12 hours. In colder conditions, a drying time of around 24 hours is recommended for best results.
6. Reapplication: once the wax loses effectiveness in dry conditions and the chain becomes noisier, wipe it with a microfibre cloth and reapply the wax.
7. After a wet ride: clean and re-lubricate the chain immediately after riding.

Important before first application

When using chain wax, chain preparation is essential. Before the first application, the chain must be completely cleaned of any residual factory grease, oil or previous lubricant. The drivetrain must be completely dry, as this is the only way the wax layer will properly bond to the chain surface.

PFAS and PTFE free formulation

Muc-Off Dark Energy is made without PFAS and PTFE. The formula also contains plant-based wax, which, according to the manufacturer, is naturally biodegradable.
